Characteristics

The Jindo Dog are much loved by many for its display of superior characteristics to the master. Such qualities are: loyalty, bravery, boldness, fastidiousness, hunting instincts, protectiveness, etc… It is our nations representative dog, also well known through out the world for living up to its reputations. If we examine the superior characteristcs, it can be arranged as the following:

First, the character of loyalty to its master.

This characteristic mentions that once it is its master, it will always be its master and never betray. Therefore, if it is not raised since young, there are many cases in which it take much time for the dog to be familiar with the new master.

Second, it has a miraculous returning home instinct.

Even if it is taken far across the sea or over mountains, there are many incidences of the dog intelligently returning home, even by means of riding on a passenger boat or swimming. It surprised many of the audience in 1997 when a broadcast station tested and proven true this characteristic.

Third, indomitable hunting instinct.

The hunting instinct characteristic is where the dog actually finds and hunts deer, rabbits, etc., without the aid of people. These characteristics are a combination of superior sense of smell, courageousness and braveness. Once it is pursuing an animal, it will always catch it because of its strong sense of competitiveness. Also the innate hunting instinct is displayed after 3~ 4 months since birth by catch mice.

Forth, not falling to strangers temptation

Biyunsung is a characteristic that when lightly trained, it will not take anything from strangers nor will be temped.

Fifth, characteristic of fastidiousness.

Even if it is not trained as a puppy, it defecates and urinates at an unclean place and instinctively keeps itself clean. Also even if the food is kept at the kitchen, it does not steal from the master and only after the master gives permission to eat, it eats. It is something that even as humans we should learn.

Sixth, protectiveness

By distinguishing the master from strangers and the protective nature of the dog, it is not inferior to any other watchdog. Also because of its superior sense of smell and hearing, a single dog is able to guard a large area of farm or factory. It is obedient to the master but it does not easily lose its guard against the stranger and it also has the ability to make decisions by observing the stranger.

Seventh, bravery and courageousness.

With its not so large size, it carries a questionable amount of courage and bravery.
Because of the superior characteristics mentioned above, it is difficult not to love the Jindo Dog especially if you have brought one up.
